Dr Michael Moreno

Co-CEO

Michael Moreno is Co-CEO of Speedwell Climate. Michael has a PhD in quantitative finance, a Master’s degree in Insurance and Finance and a Masters in Applied Mathematics.

Michael has been with Speedwell since 2000. He leads the UK arm of the business and is the Chief Technical Architect responsible for Speedwell’s suite of proprietary software where he manages the development team and defines the strategic direction in all areas of this field. Michael is also responsible for the market-leading weather/climate derivatives pricing and portfolio risk management software, the Speedwell Environmental System, SES.

Michael has published widely and previously lectured at the French actuarial school ISFA in Lyon.

David Whitehead

Co-CEO

David Whitehead is Co-CEO of Speedwell Climate. David has an MSc in Meteorology from Florida University and a BSc from Cornell. Prior to Speedwell he led a team at MDA Federal.

David joined Speedwell in 2008. He leads the USA arm of the business including Speedwell Settlement Services Ltd which provides Reference Price data and Benchmarks for settlement of climate risk-transfer contracts. David also manages the team of climate data scientists who are responsible for day-to-day collation, quality control and delivery of Speedwell’s data products.

David has led several consultancy projects to establish weather stations across the world to support settlement of some of the largest climate risk-transfer contracts ever transacted.

David is President of the Weather Risk Management Association, the industry body overseeing the index-based climate risk-transfer market.

Stephen Doherty

Founder, Chairman

Stephen Doherty has a Bachelor’s degree in the Special Engineering Program from Brunel University. Stephen started his career in the capital markets and was formerly Head of European Government Bond trading at IBJ International before co-founding Speedwell in 1994.

Stephen was Speedwell group CEO until 2015 when he stepped back to become Chairman.

Richard (Mick) Palmer

Founder, COO/CFO

After completing a Bachelor’s degree in the Special Engineering Program at Brunel University and a Master’s degree in Advanced Information Technology at Imperial College, Mick was employed in the oil industry before co-founding Speedwell in 1994. He is currently CFO/COO
